125th ANNIVERSARY - 2002
In 2002 Sunbury Amateur Regatta celebrated it's 125th Anniversary. We held a number of special events to mark this occasion.
The events were kindly sponsored by Page Aerospace, without whose support they would not have been possible.
We held a River Pageant during the day, and enhanced the Illuminated Boats and the Fireworks Display in the evening.
A River Pageant was held during the Regatta. This event took place twice during the day, once at lunch (12:30) and once at tea (15:30).
The Pageant consisted of a procession of the following boats:
Environment Agency launch Isis
Steam Launch Eclipse
Some of the different classes of boat entering into the Regatta
An Umpires Launch
An RNLI D Class Lifeboat (demonstrating a rescue)
Thames Cutters
The SwanUpping Boats
The Official SwanUpping Support Boats
The Lady Mayoress...
...carrying in our very own Queen Victoria, who was on the throne when the Regatta first took place
A commentary was provided by Barnaby Davies-Rees giving information about each boat. The whole event was set to music.
In the evening, the illuminated boat parade and the fireworks display was enhanced, by setting it to music. The whole evening passed off very successfully.
Since the event, many people have asked details of the music used throughout the day. Here are the details:
